A dim North Carolina workshop where Fyssion speakers are built

Our Story

Built by hand, in North Carolina.

The mission

"To reproduce the intent of the original performance of the artist in a way which is as neutral and accurate as possible."

The beginning

They said it was unworkable.

Consulting engineers looked at the design and called it unworkable. The founder persisted anyway, convinced that the idea wasn't wrong, just untried.

"It was the application of existing ideas in a way that had not been done before." That persistence became ARIA: a patented hybrid design that combines an internal mechanical diaphragm with an electrical one, recovering detail no other speaker can.

Fyssion Audio Co. is a subsidiary of Leather and Sound, Inc., based in Boone, North Carolina. Every speaker is hand-built, and every cabinet carries a three-year warranty.

Genre-agnostic

A speaker with no character of its own.

A Fyssion speaker adds no character of its own: no crossovers, no large air-volume requirement, no coloration. It's equally at home with 1940s big band, modern rock, gaming, and film.

That neutrality is the point. Older and mono recordings, long thought unlistenable on modern systems, recover a presence and life that listeners had written off. The speaker was built, from the start, for listeners with hearing loss, to give back what's been lost.

The Greenpark Inn

Reclaimed wood, restored purpose.

Some Fyssion cabinets are built from reclaimed pine and wormy chestnut salvaged from the historic Greenpark Inn, wood that carries its own history into every speaker.

When Hurricane Helene swept through the mountains, it tested everything and everyone here. The workshop endured. The work continued. And the reclaimed wood became a quiet symbol of North Carolina resilience, something broken, made whole again, and made to sing.
